Pop Stranger formed in 1981 as part of the drum box electronic scene that existed on the outer edges of the mainstream music world. From the start, Pop Stranger were defiantly making pop music however distant from pop it may have sounded. Uninspired by the creative sterility of professional recording studios and disillusioned with the taped results they offered, Pop Stranger chose to record their own work. Opening up a method of working that became the Pop Stranger sound – live recording, improvisation, and the inclusion of mistake, accident and interruption to the staples of pop composition – melody, riff and sequence. Over the next decade Pop Stranger produced a series of albums and single recordings that will now be issued in chronological order.
